The iPhone SDK event was today and we saw a lot of information and demos regarding iPhone apps.

Apple announced that they will be releasing the same tools to developers that Apple use to make their own iPhone apps.

Apple also announced that a software emulator for Mac OS X will be released to help with iPhone app creations.

The SDK was split into sets as follows:

Core OS: OS X Kernel, BSD TCP/IP, Sockets, Power Management, Keychain, Certificates, File System, Lib System, Security and Bonjour.

Core Services: Collections, Address Book, Networking, File access, SQLite, Core Location, Net Services Threading, Preferences and URL utilities.

Media: Core Audio, OpenAL, Audio Mixing, Audio Recording, Video Playback, JPG, PNG, TIFF, PDS Quartz, Core Animation and Embedded OpenGL.

Cocoa Touch: Multi-touch events, Multi-touch controls, Acceleromter, View Hierarchy, Localization, Alerts, Web View, People Picker, Image Picker and Camera.

During the event, Apple showed a few demo apps that they had written. They also demoed apps made by EA and SEGA.

The iPhone apps will be downloaded through an iTunes App Store, which you can wirelessly download apps from, directly from your iPhone. This feature will be added with the iPhone 2.0 firmware, which has gone out to developers in BETA today.

The 2.0 firmware will be available to the public in June, this will be free to iPhone users. However, like last time, iPod Touch users will have to pay a fee for it due to ‘accounting issues’.

Developers of the apps will choose how much they want to sell them for and can also distribute them free if they want to. Developers will get 70% revenue and the revenue will be paid out monthly. Developers of free applications will not be charged for Apple to supply their applications through iTunes.

The SDK is available to download for free now, here.
