Are you one of the many who took advantage of the AT&T iPhone refurbs? If you did, your warranty may not be as it seems.

This post on TUAW by Erica Sadun explains how the sticker on the box states that “Refurbished iPhones have a full 1 year warranty. You must retain receipt for warranty claims through Apple.” This flies in the face of what Apple will tell you, as their line is simple. The warranty begins from the date of first sold and activated!

So, who do you believe? Erica got on the phone to Apple (1-800-694-7466) and, at the 2nd attempt, the Apple agent extended the warranty to the correct date, as described on the box. She did need to confirm that the iPhone was on a valid AT&T contract though, so no 1 year warranty with your unlocked handset I’m afraid.

So the upshot of all that? Get on the phone and check !
