EDIT: I successfully returned an iPhone for exchange after it had been unlocked/jailbroken recently, so this is 100% accurate for the people who don’t believe me !

I read this over and over on various forums, and I thought it might be worth posting it on here, in the vain hope that it might stop it getting mentioned quite so many times.

It seems to be a common misconception that if you iPhone is not activated on an official carrier, then you have no hardware warranty. Despite what in-store sales people may say, this IS NOT correct.

To check once and for all, I put the serial number of my iPhone (which is not activated) into Apple’s warranty checker and got this:

Notice the line saying:

Please note that warranty service is not dependent on activating your iPhone.

Seems pretty black and white to me.

Have you had trouble returning a faulty iPhone that hadn’t been activated? Let us know !
