According to Jonny Evans over on macworld uk, apparently Apple have been busy little beavers tinkering away behind the scenes at 1 Infinite Loop working on a secret new style of interactive controller…

The patent was first filed in November 2006 and published this week. It describes a device that would work in similar fashion to the Wii controller and would apparently be designed to work with an Apple TV, turning the set-top box into a gaming console.

The device would be capable of “zooming into and out of an image or a portion thereof based on the absolute position of the remote control.” Like the Wii controller, it would work in three directions, x, y, z.

As Apple’s most successful foray into the games market has been on the iPod, they’ve since been in touch with developers and are keen to to ‘reinvigorate’ their position within the games market…

Exciting times ahead?  Lets hope so!
