As some of you will no doubt be aware - the past few years has seen upto 2.3 million US g3 powerbook and ibook owners turning their hand to bit of amateur firefighting.

As a result of a class action lawsuit filed in 2006, it appears apple has given the go ahead to repay certain consumers upto $79 for replacements.  It is not clear how this settlement will work, but macworld uk quotes:

The move is Apple’s response to a class action filed in 2006. This claimed Apple misrepresented problems with the power adapters.

The adapter “dangerously frays, sparks and prematurely fails to work,” the plaintiffs said in court filings.

The company recalled about 570,000 power adapters sold worldwide with PowerBook G3s in 2001, following reported overheating. Under the deal, Apple will pay cash to customers who purchased a power adaptor to replace a failed one.

Final approval of the settlement should be put in place in early September.

Blue Watch would be proud!
