Free App: YouTube Video Downloader

13 May, 2008 (22:53) Posted by Oli | , ,

I‘m having a bit of a YouTube revival at the moment. It seems everything I’m either researching ready for buying, or just finding information for the site, YouTube is proving of use. Yes it’s also a haven for some complete rubbish, but if you look hard enough there’s some little gems too.

The problem I have however, is remembering where the videos I like actually are. Yes I can bookmark them, but sometimes you want a local version. This is where YouTube Video Downloader comes in. Created by a member of teh iPhoneSDK forums, this little app downloads any youtube video you have the URL for. Give it the URL and it goes off to do its thing. Once downloaded you can then either play it using software that supports FLV files, or convert it for MP4 using something like iSquint. There’s no loss in quality and it’s nice and quick too.

Yes there are other applications that also do the same thing, but I like this one for two reasons. Firstly, it’s free which is always a plus ! Secondly, it’s got such a small footprint, is nice and light, and doesn’t try to do too many things at once. It does exactly what it says on the tin !

YouTube Video Downloader can be downloaded from Josh G’s website. Josh will also be reading this post, so any questions/comments, be sure to use the comments section at the bottom of this post !
