O2 ‘confirms’ new iPhone in ‘weeks’
Well, it appears that the day may soon be upon us…
To be honest, I’ve learnt to take these sort of announcements with a pinch of the white stuff - but bearing in mind the proximity to WWDC and we’re hearing more rumours every day - this may just be the icing on the cake..
The news was confirmed by Matthew Key after yesterday’s announcement of the o2’s financial statement. Whilst he remained tight lipped on an exact time-scale for the announcement, Key did confirm his company hold a multi-year exclusive agreement with Apple for selling the iPhone in the UK and Ireland, despite recent chatter of a potential end to network exclusivity.
O2 also managed to confirm that it added over 206,000 new contract customers in the first quarter of 2008, saying:
“This was driven by iPhone and strong “traditional handset” connections and excludes connections to O2 UK’s mobile broadband offer, launched in April.”
Key also responded to some claims the revenue-sharing deal it has agreed with Apple is too much in favour of the computer company, observing:
“Clearly I don’t know the economic deals they have done, and I would reiterate we are very happy with deals we have done, which clearly they don’t know the details of either.”
Hopefully this signifies the impending release of v2… but again we shall have to wait and see… Sheesh, I’m getting bored of those three words…..
