Psystar Cloner ships first service pack… defies Apple… still!
You may remember a week or so back that we reported on the first ‘Hackintosh’ to go on sale, Psystar’s Open Computer. If you recall, Psystar had broken every rule in the book by running mac os on non apple hardware. It now seems that they’re taking this one step further, by releasing their first service pack.
The service pack apparently addresses some compatibility isues, many of them apparently inherent in Apple’s own software, according to InformationWeek.
The fixes address a range of troubles, from glitches in Apple’s Time Machine backup feature to quirks in the Keyboard Viewer and Character Palette entries in Leopard’s system preferences menu. There’s also support for the latest version of Java and other updates.
According to the story, by offering a full menu of support:
Psystar appears to be daring Apple to attempt to enforce provisions in the Leopard license agreement that forbid third-party installations and sales.

It appears to me that Apple are either waiting to gather further evidence of a non-compliance or simply arent bothered! I would imagine the former, on past experience!
As always, we’ll keep you updated (man, I say that a lot!), but I promise we will!
Stay tuned, for next week we’ll be running a macbook comparison and we’ll try and slip some geekbench results in for the Psytar.
