DimP - The coolest thing ever? Probably.
There’s some things we take for granted these days that are really quite amazing. For example, if someone had said to be 10 years ago, nay 5 years ago, that I’d have a phone that I controlled using just my fingers I’d have laughed. A phone that lets me check my email, browse the real internet and takes decent photos too. I’d have called them a liar. That’s the great thing about technology. Some things happen and you just wouldn’t have believed it until you saw it, which brings me onto DimP rather nicely….
Some clever people over at the University of Toronto (Pierre Dragicevic, Gonzalo Ramos, Jacobo Bibliowicz, Derek Nowrouzezahrai, Ravin Balakrishnan, Karan Singh to quote names) have written a paper showing their method of controlling a video’s timeline by dragging its content. Using some fancy jiggery pokery I would imagine. The video above is quite amazing really. Not only is their method more fun than dragging a line up and down a bar, it’s also “at least two times faster”. Neato !
