Intel Atom steps up to the plate…
(I think its a baseball reference!)
It appears that the clever fellows over at netkas.org have done it again… They’ve managed to run (and benchmark) the latest version of OS X, our furry feline friend, Leopard utilising an Intel Atom chip.
One of the new wave of x86 chips to use the 45nm process, its low power consumption makes it perfect for use within a portable environment - whether it be the much ‘hypothesised about’ apple tablet device or an even more portable version of the macbook.
Who knows, whats around the corner - but to get back to the story, and down to the nitty gritty.
Below is a snapshot of the XBench results and I think they make interesting reading.
Ultimately time will tell, but as the folks over at netkas have shown, the future looks bright! And if - if, apple decide to produce a tablet form machine, this may be a perfect choice to have under the bonnet.
