3G iPhone - it’s real

The waiting is finally over, and today saw the official announcement of the 3G iPhone. We got pretty much what we expected, with a couple of notable absences.
What we got:
- 3G network support
- GPS ability
- Flush headphone jack - no more adapters
What we didn’t get:
- Dual cameras - still no video chat
- MMS - Apple obviously still thinks Email is the way to go
- Smaller casing - to be expected really with the additions
The word on the internet is a little mixed so far. Some are buzzing with the announcement that we finally have high-speed internet access on an iPhone, something that should arguably have been there since day one. Others however are a little upset at what they would argue are missing functions. Why, if we now have 3G do we not have video calls? On a related note, why is the camera that is included not getting a spec boost?
One worry I had personally was the affect that GPS and 3G would have on battery life. Apple are claiming some pretty impressive numbers, so if they are accurate then I’m happy.

The 16GB iPhone also sports a white option - not that I like it. How to take a nice looking device and make it look cheap and nasty in one easy step !

And finally there’s the price: $199 for the 8GB version (black) and $299 for the 16GB (black or white). Few can argue that Apple haven’t set the new handset at an aggressive price point. Lets see how that translates around the world !

So the phone is officially out? Because if so I might be willing to throw $300 out for this…
