Apple release details in relation to ‘Snow Leopard’

Well, as you’ll no doubt be aware, all the recent OS talk has been of Mac OS X 10.6, codename Snow Leopard.
According to the Soothsayers over at TUAW, who first broke the 10.6 story, Apple have released details of the forthcoming OS.
After some further digging, its clear that OS X 10.6 will not include many new features, but will build upon the already well established Leopard platform and concentrate on improving the quality of its current release.
Now, as I speak - the page that I was going to link to has disappeared - but we’ll see if we can glean any more information over the coming days.
Its clear that with the advent of multi-core processors now firmly taking centre stage, it would make sense to optimise the OS and thats just what Apple have done. OS X will be geared towards multi-core processors, and its also rumoured that apple will include the ability for users to really ’up the ram’ in their systems, theoretically 16TB (EVH - take note!)
Snow Leopard will also include ‘out of the box support’ for Microsoft Exchange 2007, and will ship with an updated version of Safari, using SquirrelFish, a new JavaScript engine.
No details in relation to price at the present, but Apple expect the OS to be shipping in ‘One Year’.
So, good news for all you OS junkies, bad news for those who purchase a mac in the meantime - though its likely that Apple may subsidise recent switchers…
As always, we’ll keep you updated with any developments!

Aye.. I’m a bit disappointed… but I don’t really know how many different types of leopard there are! Seeing as its just a ‘bump’ in the grand scheme of things, maybe it was more appropriate to build on the original name.. time will tell methinks! ![]()
