Another piece of news to come out of WWDC is the re-branding of .mac (dotmac). Renamed MobileMe, the service will be a subscription service offering ‘Exchange for the rest of us’.

Users can expect Push Email, Push Calendars and Push Contacts, with all this information stored on a central ‘Cloud’. From here your mac, PC or iPhone (or touch for that matter) will be ‘pushed’ the latest info over the air. This will mean that no matter where you are, you will always have the most up to date info at hand. All very nifty.

Also if not is iDisk. This is your very own 20GB online storage to do with what you please. It looks like you are limited to 1GB files, which does make it a little less useful as a backup option. Very useful for all your Galleries of photos from .mac, which are still supported by MobileMe.

To drive the point home, Apple have uploaded a video by everyone’s favourite Apple Store employee John Appleseed, which can be found over here.

I’ve given .mac a go before and not really found a use for it. I hope they will let me take another 60 day trial with the new service !
