Looking for a Twitter alternative? Good luck !
I‘m sure a good chunk of current Twitter users take issue with its current ‘is it up, is it down’ state of affairs, and Mike Bogle is no exception. So much so, he’s spent a whole week Twitter-free, and tried out a couple of alternatives. Pownce and Jaiku both impressed from a technical and features standpoint, with Jaiku being the closest thing to Twitter out of the two. Tee problem he found though, is one that I’ve also discovered in my quest for a stable micro-blogging service. No-one uses them.
Take Twitter as an example. Their usage statistics for March, courtesy of Techcrunch were:
- Over 1,000,000 users
- 200,000 active users PER WEEK
- 3,000,000 PER DAY
The simple matter of the fact is it’s going to take some serious catching up for a new service to rival Twitter in both ease of use and number of users. One that may just have a chance though is Plurk. The best thing about Plurk is its timeline bases interface.

I just wish there was an iPhone app for it. Perhaps with the release of the App Store we’ll get one?
What social networking sites (other than Facebook!) or microblogging services do you use? Any to recommend? You know where the comments section is !
