iPhone + iTrip = musical needs fulfilled

Having recently bought a car with a radio that actually locks onto stations, my attentions turned to finding a way to get my music from my iPhone to the speakers. I used an iTrip many Moons ago, so did a spot of googling. It seems the internet is full of people telling anyone who will listen that the current iTrips (pictured) DO NOT work with the iPhone. The reason they give is the fact that the iPhone’s cell connection interferes with the FM radio. That’s fine, I follow that 100% and would even go so far as to agree.
Now, let me let you into my findings…..
Off I went today in search of an iTrip, and after visiting my usual web sites I discovered Argos were doing the white one for half the price of the black one. Not one to ask questions when there’s a bargain to be had I hot-footed it down and snagged one.
After much box ripping I had the iTrip plugged into the iPhone’s dock connector and was greeted by a message. I’ve not got the thing handy right now, but the general gist was that it knew I’d plugged in something that wasn’t guaranteed to work, and did I want to turn on airplane mode? I thought I’d try it anyway and tuned my radio in. It was alive ! After a couple of minutes though there was indeed some interference from the iPhone. However, turning on airplane mode cured that 100%. Considering I’m not going to be answering the thing while I’m driving, that’s a price I’m more than willing to pay.
So to sum up, the iTrip DOES work with the iPhone (the current one at least!), so long as you turn on airplane mode.
As a side note, I’m very impressed with the sound quality. They’ve certainly improved since I last had one with my old 20GB iPod years ago. Well done Griffin !
