images.jpegIf you’re lucky enough to own a Mac Pro chances are you don’t find yourself sat staring at too many loading screens. If however, your 8 cores of 3.2GHz just don’t cut it anymore, ZDNet have the answer.

The ZDnet Clock tool is designed for overclocking Intel Mac Pros and Xserve machines, and allows users to tinker with clock speeds, front-side-bus speeds and memory frequency. All this should result in a nice, free speed bump. Just remember not to get too carried away, the Mac Pros make very expensive paperweights !

Beware though that there are one or two caveats to take into account. First off it’s not unheard of for clock in Leopard to go a bit loopy, and things like sleep/wake are also affected. With the overclocking being done in software too, the changes you make won’t still be in affect after a restart.

The software can be had from the ZDnet web site here. It’s all in German, so you’ll be wanting to click he Jetzt herunterladen button to get going.

So, do you own a Mac Pro and are you mad enough to give this a go? Screenshots/photos of flames very much appreciated ! ;)
