Apple apologises for MobileMe debacle

18 July, 2008 (10:13) Posted by itsallaboutyou | , ,

Right, first things first - in the words of the famous song (switched around a little bit…) “I’m back… from outer space….” Well - London, but you get my drift…

We’ve been hearing many a tale of woe with regards to Apple’s new MobileMe service.

Many subscribers have been telling us that the free trials that they signed up for, weren’t free at all!  With some new trial customers being charged upto 3 times!  This is mainly due to the subscription model that Apple has employed with this new service, meaning that you have to provide card details prior to starting your trial - we’re assuming that this is to combat the spate of spam accounts being created.

Bill Evans, Apple spokesman told Macworld:

“We want to apologize to our loyal customers and express our appreciation for their patience by giving all current subscribers an automatic 30-day extension to their MobileMe subscription free of charge.”

He also added that:

“The .Mac to MobileMe transition was a lot rockier than we had hoped but everything is now up and running,”

So.. Apple has extended the proverbial Olive Branch to customers, something which was to be expected, but nevertheless, its a nice little perk.

We want to hear from YOU! Have you had any bad, or good experiences with your .Mac to MobileMe transition?  Keep us informed and we’ll post up your comments.

As always, we’ll keep you up to date with all the comings and goings as they happen.

Well, as of this morning the mail functionality through me.com is still broken. You can’t use the address book button when composing a new email (it’s disabled) and the “intellisense” when typing an address doesn’t work. This basically means that, unless you know the email address you’re sending to, the compose email screen is unusable.
I’m still debating whether to ditch my current Google Apps/Flickr combo, and move to Me.com. There’s a lot of functionality missing right now though.
