ereader.jpgI’m currently playing around with the concept of reading books on the iPhone, thanks mainly to the release of eReader. This little app allows you to connect to your eReader.com bookshelf and download and read your books.

However, there is currently a problem with this downloading of books. Many people, including yours truly, have been getting an error message when trying to download paid for books. Free ones work fine. This got me thinking: if free ones work fine, what’s different between those and paid for books? The answer? The paid for ones need unlocking !

Bearing in mind that this unlocking is based on your credit card number, I had a look-see at the eReader web site. Sure enough, there’s a page in my account area that SHOULD have my credit card details. I say should as it was empty. I stuck in the relevant details, crossed my fingers and fired up eReader on the iPhone. Sure enough, the book that was giving the error downloaded first time. The job, as they say, is a good ‘un !

Hopefully this will help a few people around the interweb, as a quick google shows up more than a few people with the same problem.

Could you please open a support ticket at ereader.com and let us know who you are? Because we would like to investigate this problem. There may be some specific set of circumstances that causes it for some users and not others. If we knew which login you were, we could check some log files and possibly locate the trouble. In our own tests it does not normally happen, we make a new account and buy a book and the cards always seem to go on file as expected.

Be sure in the first line of the support to say “Please refer this ticket to Steve Pendergrast” that way I can personally follow up on it.

    Take care,

I have downloaded ereader to my Iphone 3G. I open it, I go to Bookshelf, I choose ‘another site’ and I can go to manybooks.net and download books, BUT when I choose ‘ereader sites’ I log in and enter my password, but when I hit ‘GO’ I get a blank screen. I can log in on my desktop with no problems. I have emailed ereader three times and no response. I have erased and downloaded the software again from the app store: same problem. Stanza works fine too. Help please. Many thanks David Jehn davidjehn@yahoo.com

I have the ereader app on my iphone. The first few days everything was working fine. But now whenever I touch the ereader app the screen goes black and then returns to the main iPhone screen. If you have any suggestions let me know.

Nai: Probably something you’ve already tried but have you power cycled the iPhone ?
