One iPhone 3G down – one to go?
So I get to work this morning, and I hear the text message notification sound. The only problem is when I left for work this morning the iPhone was on silent. This isn’t the first time this has happened, so I thought I’d investigate.
After some highly technical flicking of the ‘silent’ switch, I determined that it was, infact, borked. It was getting flicked back up in my pocket, thanks to there being next to no resistance on the switch itself.
So, off I popped to the Apple Store, which is thankfully a whole 15 seconds walk away. 10 minutes later I walked out with a new iPhone. Bargain you may think. Wrong !
I’ve noticed that if I place my hand over the lower back part of the handset, my reception drops around 3 bars. Normally I wouldn’t notice this, but I’d unfortunately seen this video on Youtube.
So here I am, pondering ANOTHER return to the Apple Store. I’d be very interested to hear if this happens on anyone else’s iPhone 3G handsets, preferably in the next 12 hours.
Thanks muchly !

I was unaware of this as well, and have been happily using my iPhone 3g since I got it on launch day.
Having watched that video, I tried the same thing, and it has the same effect. It doesn’t bother me that much; I’ve never noticed it in practice, and I don’t hold my phone like that very often.
But yes, hand over bottom section of phone = loss of signal. I go from a full signal to about three or four bars.
It’s certainly odd. Just don’t remember my old one doing it.
