I’ve had a chance to play around with 2.0 on both my old 2.5G iPhone and my spanky new iPhone 3G for a while now. The novelty of the App Store has worn off, and I’ve tried some pretty poor applications. Over the next few posts I’ll be detailing the apps that, despite not being perfect, have managed to survive the great app cull of 2008.

It’s no secret I’m a little obsessed with Twitter. If I’m not tweeting, I’m reading tweets. If I’m not reading tweets I’m writing about Twitter on the-iBlog! I love it. Micro-blogging is a great way to keep in touch - sort of text messaging for the internet.

Back before the App Store was unleashed, I used Hahlo as my Twitter web site of choice. I still use it today as my desktop solution running in a Fluid.app window. It blows any Adobe Air solution out of the water as far as I’m concerned.

Anyway, back to the iPhone. With the release of the App Store I thought I’d best give the available Twitter clients a whirl. Twinkle is one I’ve used before, back when it was available through Installer on jailbroken iPhones. It was very good, but it did have a few flaws. This official version is still FREE, and it’s now even better. A recent update has toned down the God-awful starry background which was one of my bug-bears, and now I’m happy with it. I’ve tried everyone’s fave Twitterific but Twinkle is still the one I go back to. I’m not even sure why !
