During my morning RSS browsing I came across a post over on 37signals.com. The author is taking a pop at Apple for the way it portrays the speed of the iPhone 3G in one of its latest adverts, ‘Unslow’.

Here’s the video for the people who haven’t yet witnessed the amazing speed that is 3G….

I say ‘the amazing speed that is 3G’ only slightly in jest. Personally I’ve not had any real problems with 3G speed or indeed 3G reception. Yes there is an area I visit regularly that, according to O2′s coverage checker, should have 3G but doesn’t, but I’m not going to blame that on the iPhone as I’ve no other mobile to check it with. Having said that, a quick gander at the numerous Apple forums around the internet show that there are many, MANY people who aren’t happy with 3G.

Which brings us back to the post I read earlier….

Said post complains about the advert, saying that it promises speed that simply isn’t available. To be honest I do have to agree here. The things being shown in that ad. just do not happen that quickly, even on WiFi. Are Apple deliberately setting out to mislead customers? Probably, yes. Is it a surprise? No, not really.

Test it yourself. Have a couple of practice runs then try and do what is shown on the Apple advert. If you can get close to the same speed as they do, I’d love to see it !

What are your thoughts? Do you think Apple are trying to pull a fast one? Let me know on Twitter !
