What do you want from tomorrow’s notebook event?
So Tuesday sees the Apple notebook event, and the end of what seems like months of Macbook speculation. Reading around the interwebs it seems everyone and their Grandmother has their own thoughts on what we’ll be seeing from his Steve-ness this time round. Everyone seems to want something different too.
Personally I’m after a nice netbook. The Asus Eeepc is nice, as is the Acer ONE but I want something running OS X, not some cut down linux distro. What I want is a Macbook of a similar size and weight, running a proper version of OS X. I don’t even want a DVD drive. Come to think of it, what I really want is a Macbook Air but a third of the price ! C’mon Steve, you know you want to !
Of course what I want, and what I think we’ll get are two completely different things. A cheaper notebook than the current Macbook would make sense, especially given the current financial state of affairs worldwide. That, a Macbook Pro name change and spec bump along with a slight Macbook Air spec bump (larger HDD, slightly quicker CPU) are my predictions for the event. This whole idea of the new notebooks being made from a solid slab of aluminium is something I’m a bit sceptical about as well. From what I’ve heard on various podcasts this ranges from something that just wouldn’t make financial sense, to something that’s just plain hard to do. Either way, I really don’t care how they make the thing !
So there you go, my humble thoughts on what we can expect tomorrow.
I’ll warn you though, I’ve been wrong before !
What are you expecting? What are you hoping for? Let us know in the comments !

Well, having just been given a brand spanking MacBook Pro for my birthday, I’m not terribly bothered about updates to that particular product line
I reckon aluminium MacBooks, running with the Nvidia chipsets people are talking about. Makes sense, gives the MacBook range a perf boost, and differentiates them from the older plastic models, which will hopefully continue to exist in a cheaper model. Maybe a smaller screen.
So faster MBP graphics, CPU boosts (quad core?), metal MacBooks, and a new MacBook Mini or something, that’s made of plastic. Pricing is going to be very interesting given the current climate. Plus, the Touch is £300. So I’d go for £550 MacBook Minis, £700 MacBooks, and the current pricing on MBPs stays the same.
