Last week I posted about the Sky Mobile app and what appeared to be their extortionate pricing. Since then, Sky have seen fit to clarify the situation and announce info about a trial scheme and reduced rates for existing Sky Sports subscribers.

The gist is thus: if you are a current Sky Sports subscriber on your TV, you will be given a free 3 month trial where you can trust out the app and its streaming service. After your trial you will be charged a much more reasonable £6 per month. Bearing in mind that is the same price as the iPhone version, I’m more than happy with that!

If you are not a current Sky Sports subscriber you also get a trial (though only 1 month this time), but will unfortunately have to pay the £35 a month I posted about last week. Sad face indeed.

Since the clarification I’ve been able to try the app out for a couple of days, watching various sports over WiFi. The video quality can be astounding, much much better than the iPhone version. I say ‘can’ as at times the video can be mediocre at best. Hopefully his will settle down once Sky have had feedback on any issues users are experiencing.

At £6 a month it’s a no brained for me, though I still say at £35 I would have to REALLY want it!

The Sky Mobile app is free and available in the App Store now.
